Embracing Neurodiversity

Each experience is unique

The term ‘neurodivergent’ refers to individuals whose brain functions differently from what is typically expected. This includes people with various conditions like ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), autism, dyslexia, and dyspraxia.

These differences are natural variations in human cognition, making each person’s experience unique. Rather than seeing these conditions as deficits, the term ‘neurodivergent’ recognises and respects the diverse ways people think, learn, and interact with the world.

Overcoming Challenges

Organisation and Clutter

People who are neurodivergent often face challenges with executive function, which is the set of mental skills that help us manage our time, stay organised, and control our impulses.

For example, someone with ADHD might struggle with clutter and hoarding because it’s hard for them to keep track of what they have and make decisions about what to keep or discard.

Similarly, a person with autism may have difficulty organising their space due to the overwhelming nature of the task and sensory sensitivities. These challenges can lead to a cycle of disorganisation and stress, making daily life more difficult to navigate.

A shame-free space

What makes URMYhelp unique?

I have experienced many of the challenges that we face in the neurodivergent community, and I know they can sometimes be overwhelming. The fact is, there is an explanation for everything that we experience because of our condition.

It is important to know that feelings of shame or worry might be understandable, but they should not allow them to have a negative effect on how we feel about ourselves.

Different minds need different spaces

Dr Stephen Shore once said, “When you meet one person with Autism, you’ve met one person with Autism”.

It unites the digital and physical, boosting productivity and enhancing mental well-being. I will work with you to create space for you in your daily life where you can pursue and develop your interests, free from the anxieties related to your neurodivergent diagnosis.
